This dish is perfect for the Christmas table with nuts, chocolates, gold coins, or in the bathroom as a Soap Dish. It is also a lovely gift for someone who is a collector of angels.
Each of these bowls is wheel thrown from stoneware clay with skill and care. The bowl’s angel wears her traditional headscarf in typical African fashion. We see the vibrant indigo patterns as Africa’s contribution to the Wedgeware tradition, Swedish ceramics and of course the porcelain of the East.
“UMUNTU ngumuntu ngabantu”
It is a complex Nguni word that means “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”
“I am what I am because of who we all are.”
In Africa, the definition of an individual is community-based and not individualist. Zizamele’s Ubuntu pieces represent this philosophy.
