6Lady Ubuntu Bowl Black on White
This is the signature product of Zizamele Ceramics. The African version of the friendship bowl, each of these bowls is wheel thrown from stoneware clay with skill and care. Six hand-modelled African clay figures arranged in a circle hold hands around the rim of the bowl.
They wear their traditional headscarves and some have their babies tied to their backs in typical African fashion. Traditional patterns are painted in striking black glaze on white. “UMUNTU ngumuntu ngabantu” is a complex Nguni word that means “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”
“I am what I am because of who we all are." In Africa, the definition of an individual is community-based and not individualist. The Ubuntu bowls with their women holding hands in a spirit of Ubuntu, represent this philosophy.
